Fitzgerald, Ella, composer, singer, orchestra leader, recording artist; b. Newport News, Va„ April 25, 1918. ASCAP 1940. As child became protegee of Chick Webb, orchestra leader, who introduced her as singer with his orchestra at Yale prom. On death of Webb, succeeded him as leader of band. With the introduction of her own version of "A Tisket, A Tasket," began career as songwriter. Fitzpatrick, Michael J., composer, author, actor; b. New York, N.Y., July 23, 1863; d. Brooklyn, N.Y., Dec. 2, 1950. ASCAP 1941. Educ: New York public schools; violin with Prof. Worrall. Always interested in theater, frequently a super for Harrigan and Hart productions in the eighties. Grandfather was manager of historic Bowery Theater. Organized own band. Wrote special material and songs for minstrel shows. For many years active with elder brother William in professional entertainment in personal appearances and radio, with song and dance in the style of the gay 90's.
